Can I automatically enlarge headers and move content down?

I have a bunch of pages, each has several views set (pc/tablet/mobile/etc) and a header about an inch high.
I want to make the header 1.5" high.
The problem is if I enlarge the header the upper content gets covered with the new header so I have to manually go to each page (and its variations) and lengthen each page and move the content down the additional 1/2".

Is there a way to enlarge the header and automatically move content down and lengthen the page?

This is a tough one @maxim.

Possibly if you had your header in a Layout Block (and Show(ing) on all pages) and sections of your content in Layout Blocks down the page it would have worked, but I’m assuming you don’t have it set up this way.

When you vertically expand a Layout Block it pushes all the Layout Blocks (with its multiple content) below it down the page.

So yes for now you’ll have to manually do the action on every page.

Yes, I created all my pages before layout blocks appeared on the scene.
Might it be worth my time to recreate all my pages using layout blocks? I haven’t delved into them.

Thanks for saving me time not looking for a existent solution.

What you could do for now is take a copy of your Sparkle project file.

With your copy you can select a section of your page (which will include elements and maybe groups) then mouse right-click and Move To Layout Block. On desktop this is easy but at times (it is rare though) it messes things up on an already created mobile device, hence working on a copy, or totally removing the mobile device and re-introducing it.

But having your content sections in Layout Blocks allows you to reorganise your mobile device layout fairly quickly.

I will try that!
I just took a quick peek and see the Move to Layout Block when I right click. I’ll follow your suggestion and experiment with a copy.
I’ll read up on layout blocks but one question: can I select multiple items and convert them to one block?

As a side note, I just realized I virtually never right-click in Sparkle.

Hi! Another quick and dirty workaround would be to just do a Select All on the page and group all content.
Then just drag it all down an inch or so to make room for the new header.
Next, ungroup all elements on the page.
Drag your header back up top and adjust to your wishes.
Don’t forget to set the header to “show on all pages” after you adjust content on the rest of your site.

Ultimately, converting to layout blocks may be beneficial, but for now, this will get the job done.

Please let us know how this works out!

@maxim this is where a bit of forethought goes a long way…

Say your have a title, image, content and button group of elements. For me I would group them together by selecting all of them and then right-click Group. Say I have three of these, then I would Group the other two the same. Now what I can do is select all three Groups and then right-click Move To Layout Block.

By going down the page in this fashion you will end up with a number of Layout Blocks.

So to answer your question yes you can select multiple items and move them all to a Layout Block, but you won’t have too much order to them within the Layout Block.

But the beauty of Sparkle is that you can experiments, so try both ways and see which one works for you the best! :+1:

Wow Dave!
That is a capital idea!!!

I just tried it and Select All selects the header and footer, too.
So I selected zoom Fit Entire Page, dragged over the page content to select everything except the header and footer, and then grouped it all.
I enlarged the page, dragged the grouped contents down and I’m on my way.
I think I have to enlarge page, group contents, move them down and proceed to the next page.
Once I have all the pages done, then I can enlarge the header which will change on all the pages.

But first I have to [insert endless list here]

Hi!
If I were you, I would redo the header first.
That way, you will be able to see how much you need to move all of the grouped content below it so it looks best.

One idea might be to convert your header into a Layout Block first. That might be helpful in bumping the page contents down. Not sure, as I haven’t tried that myself, but why not experiment?

Making the header a layout block is an interesting idea.

I am going to add a relatively arbitrary amount of height to the header as I expect to change content over time.
I foolishl made it short thinking I’d be saving the dear readers the bother of getting past it. Oh well, no good deed goes unpunished and all that.

Regardless I have to get a bunch of “Winter is coming” stuff done first. Time enough to mess a round indoors in Minnesota when it hits.
