Enter password (text input)

One of the options of the “Button” for forms and navigation gives the option of “enter password (text input)”. How does this work? is it for password-protecting pages within the site?

Currently the password mode for text inputs only conceals the text, but there’s no support in sparkle for password protecting pages.
