Resizing page in "portrait smartphone" resizes page on "Desktop PC"

What am I doing wrong? When I drag the bottom of the page down in “portrait smartphone” so I can resize the various elements to look good on a smartphone, the bottom of the page also moves down in “Desktop PC.”

The worst part is I can’t move the page bottom back up in “Desktop PC.” It’s like it hits an invisible wall.

A couple of things you could do…

  • Close Sparkle and relaunch
  • Remove Portrait Smartphone device and reintroduce it to reset things

For most part I have answered this post in a previous post of yours.

Thank you for your suggestions. I “solved” the problem, but I had to destroy my smartphone header and footer to do it.

I had a header and a footer in the smartphone area (“show on this device” was unchecked in Desktop PC). When viewing Desktop PC I set it to show hidden items, and neither the smartphone header nor the footer were anywhere near the bottom of the page. But still the bottom hit an invisible wall when I tried to move it.

When I deleted the smartphone header and footer I could move the bottom normally again. I don’t understand why the smartphone items were blocking it when they weren’t near it.

And now I really have no idea how to make a mobile version of my site. I’m about ready to give up trying.

With Sparkle there is a mindset change in how you go about building out websites. So it can be frustrating at first if you are not use to it, but once you are over the hump it makes a lot of sense.

Have you taken a look at these latest Sparkle how to do videos? - https://www.youtube.com/c/SparkleWebsiteBuilder

When placing elements on mobile you will always need to check how they appear on desktop and in most case before your hide them you will need to reposition them and make them smaller in size to prevent it from messing up the desktop layout.

Thank you for suggesting the videos. I will watch them.

Maybe I should try again and resize the elements to make them very small before I hide them. Thanks for that idea.

You should also note that if you’ve created any popups, they may affect the depth of the pages. In particular, making a mobile menu in the form of a popup can be quite large on the desktop version, even if it’s not intended to be displayed on desktops. This is particularly so if the popup is set up to adjust to browser height. Such popups can prevent the desktop page height being adjusted.

I did put a pop-up there. It’s a search window that’s quite narrow, but I deleted it anyway. Unfortunately, it didn’t make a difference. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Hi Gary, just a quick thought. Is the mobile page definitely set to custom layout and not automatically scaled?

Yes, it is. Thanks for asking.
